DUO Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

DUO held a ribbon cutting ceremony last week to officially open the doors of the brand-new six-story building in Chelsea. The event was well-attended, with several city officials speaking alongside JMC’s CEO Joseph Corcoran and Executive Vice President of Development Peter Mahoney.

This milestone marks the first completed project in the Commonwealth’s Public Housing Innovations Demonstration Program and represents a pioneering redevelopment into a mixed-income community in Chelsea.

One of the event’s highlights was a speech by a long-time resident leader who headed the Innes Residents' Association. She ensured the voices of former Innes Apartments residents were heard throughout DUO’s redevelopment, welcoming them to their new home.

Andrew Brinker of the Boston Globe noted that DUO, “...is the latest example in a promising new trend for public housing in Massachusetts: replacing the state's aging public housing projects with larger developments that mix public and market-rate units.” The project includes 96 apartments for very low-income residents, 40 workforce apartments, and 196 market-rate apartments.

We look forward to the next phase of the second building to complete this project!
