Sustainable Construction and Apartment Development at Corcoran Management

John M. Corcoran & Company is environmentally aware and committed to sustainable construction and management practices.  In 2007 JMC & Co introduced New England’s first large-scale apartment community to receive LEED certification – Parkside Commons in Chelsea, MA. 

In our portfolio of managed properties, buildings of all ages are energy efficient because of JMC & Co's accomplishments in sustainable retrofitting. This has included upgrading heating boilers, converting to LED lighting, installing low-flow water devices, increasing natural lighting, and reducing landscaping needs. In addition, JMC & Co partners with over 87 multifamily management firms in publishing energy savings reports for others to follow. In return, John M. Corcoran & Company has received over two million dollars in incentives from the federal government, community action groups, and utility companies to use for energy-efficiency improvements.

JMC & Co has also received accolades at a national level for its green buildings. The U.S. Department of Energy’s “Better Buildings” initiative recognized JMC & Co's McNamara House in Allston, MA as a national leader in energy efficiency retrofitting. Canterbury Towers, a Section 8 community in Worcester, MA subsequently received the same honor. Click to read about Canterbury Towers being recognized for their efforts in energy efficiency. In August 2017, MetroMark, a new JMC & Co community in Jamaica Plain, MA, was recognized as LEED Gold by the United States Green Building Council. In October 2018, The Mastlight in Union Point in South Weymouth achieved LEED Silver certification.
